How to search in Chrome
Use the address bar to search the web, your bookmarks, and your browsing history. Just type your search term in the bar and press Enter to see results from your default search engine.
Here are all the other ways you can search in Google Chrome. These tips apply to Google Chrome on Windows, Mac, Linux, and Chrome OS.
- Search a specific site (tab to search)
Start typing the web address of the site you want to search in the address bar. If Google Chrome has a record of the site's search engine, it automatically offers you the option to search that site. If you remember the search engine's keyword, you can also type the keyword in the address bar. Press Tab to choose the search engine, type your search term, then press Enter. - Search a page
Use the find bar to find specific words or terms on the page you're viewing. Press the keyboard shortcuts Ctrl+F(Windows, Linux, and Chrome OS) and ⌘-F (Mac) to bring up the find bar on the page. - Search your browsing history, downloads, and bookmarks
You can also use the search boxes at the top of the History page, Download page, and bookmark manager to search your browsing history, download history, and bookmarks respectively. These resources are available via the Chrome menu on the browser toolbar. - Right-click search
Highlight any text or image on a webpage with your cursor. Right-click (or control-click on a Mac) and select the option to do a search on the highlighted text or image. - Paste and search
Highlight any text on a webpage with your cursor and copy it. When you're ready to search, right-click (or control-click on a Mac) the address bar and select Paste and search. - Highlight and drag search (Windows & Linux only)
Highlight any text on a webpage with your cursor and drag it to the address bar. Google Chrome automatically displays the search results from your default search engine for your highlighted text.
